Work hard, live healthy

Health is one topic that is often talked about but is also the most misunderstood topic. Being healthy does not mean you spend hours in a gym, running or pumping iron, neither does it mean you go on some crazy diet that promises rapid weight loss in a month. Being healthy is a lifestyle choice, it’s the little things you do throughout the day that ensure you reduce the pressure on your heart and your mind. You spend the majority of your day working and that’s where the problem starts. Most people are so caught up in what they are doing, they forget the most important thing, their health. So here are some tips to help you continue your work while making sure you don’t compromise on your health.

It’s a stretch, but it works

Are you someone who is always glued to your chair while working? Well, it’s time to take that gum off and start stretching. Sitting in a prolonged position for too long can impact your health negatively. You might be surprised, but inactivity or being sedentary increases the pressure on spinal discs by about 40 per cent more than standing and forces the spine out of neutral alignment, exaggerating the back’s natural curves, and causing strain on the lower back as the muscles try to correct the imbalance. Frequent stretching between work keeps a proper blood flow and nutrient supply to the working muscles and tissues throughout the workday and prevents fatigue and discomfort while reducing the risk of injuries. One of the best benefits of stretching is that it stimulates the formation of synovial fluid in the joints, which acts to make the joints easier to move, thus reducing pain and stiffness. So next time you find yourself sitting for too long, just get up and start stretching. If your co-workers find it weird, make them stretch too.

Use the stairs and avoid the stairway to heaven

Elevators are a wonderful invention, it’s the best way to reach the top, literally! But sadly elevators are also making us lazy. People take the elevator even when they have to go to the first floor. When it comes to staying healthy, make it a habit to use the stairs as much as you can. Not only will it help your heart pump better, but it will also help you lose some weight. In most workplaces in Japan, the employees often prefer using the stairs over an elevator, no wonder most Japanese people are slim and healthy. So the next time you have to go to a floor that’s not too high, skip the elevator and use the stairs.

You are what you eat

We get it, working makes anyone hungry, just reading this is probably making you hungry right now and it’s ok, as long as you are munching on something healthy. Fruits are healthy, they are the best gift a single tree, Two Trees, or many different trees can give you. Fruits are also low in calories, so you can eat without worrying about those extra pounds (not the good type which is printed in the United Kingdom). If you are someone who works from home and is always surrounded by your favourite food, you can always consider working from the workplace. They are just as comfortable but without the distractions, you find in your home.

These are 3 tips we think will help you live a healthier life and help you maintain the work and health balance. If you know any other tips that can be helpful, feel free to comment below.
